This is a photo of my father and I taken in the 80s.
I am a bilingual freelance web developer based in Honolulu, Hawaii. My job is to work with US and Japanese companies to help plan, create and market websites. My outdated portfolio can be viewed at scott-murphy.net (hopefully I’ll update soon!).
During my free time, I keep up with Japanese web trends and build some of my own web applications. My work has been featured in major Japanese portal sites such as the front page of hatena, livedoor and ameba news.
Other things about me:
- I was born and raised in Japan. I’m half Japanese and speak the language fluently.
- I love mikan. In fact, I love it so much that I turn yellow every winter from eating too much of it.
- I’m a web geek as you can tell. I love all stages of web development including design and programming.
- Did I say I love mikan?
About this blog:
I used to run my personal blog off of a system that I built in Cakephp. However, I quickly realized that between my work and personal projects, I had almost no time to work on expanding the blogging system. So in renewing my site, I decided to go with Wordpress which is much easier to maintain.
To any usability experts: Yes, I have read this book and recommend it to any web designer. But…in this site, I wanted to try something new and go with a one-column layout. It’s an experiment and I’ll probably be changing this around soon.
In terms of the content, I plan to go about 60% Japanese Web Stuff, 20% personal and 20% other. We’ll see how it works out.
